You don't have to do it alone · Adults 18+

Your next step. Your pace.

Want to stop smoking? Ready to stop vaping? Still figuring it out? You deserve practical help, not a lecture.

01 · Stop smoking

Start with support.

HSE QUIT offers free, non-judgemental support to stop smoking. A stop-smoking adviser can help you make a plan and discuss treatments, including nicotine replacement therapy.

A pharmacist or GP can also help you choose medicines and manage cravings. If you have a health condition, are pregnant or take other medicines, ask for individual advice.

02 · Stop vaping

Ready when you are.

If you used vaping to stop smoking, protect that progress. The NHS advises only quitting vaping when you feel confident you won't return to cigarettes.

You could gradually lower nicotine strength, leave longer between vaping sessions, or make certain places vape-free. If cutting down makes you vape more or brings back cigarette cravings, slow down and seek advice.

A pharmacist can discuss ways to manage nicotine withdrawal. You don't have to follow the same timeline as anyone else.

NHS: how to quit vaping

A setback isn't a failure.

Many people need more than one attempt. Notice what made things difficult, adjust your plan and ask for support. You don't owe anyone a perfect quitting story.

If you don't smoke, don't start vaping. Young people and non-smokers should not vape. For urgent symptoms such as severe breathlessness or chest pain, seek urgent medical help; call 112 or 999 in an emergency.
